From the Commodore We just completed a very successful junior summer
sailing program, graduating 83 junior sailors. Thanks to Jeff Ellis
and his fellow instructors Shannon Rogers, Tim Andrews and Robert
Eaton Smith for their dedication to this effort. These same
individuals were instrumental in Beginning September 11, we will host a tailgate party inside the club every Saturday during football season, with a volunteer team providing the food. Jimmy Taylor will start the season with one of his delicious tuna dishes. Volunteers are needed to help during the season. We are expanding our lunch menu to include a daily blue plate special. We offer a variety of lunch menu choices every day, including a buffet every Thursday. Our Wednesday night dinner has become so popular that we have decided to continue it through September. We are also revising our Friday night menu to present a more attractive choice of items. Details are presented in the Lee Sheet. Don't forget the general membership meeting on September 19. Richard Desporte and the nominating committee have done a magnificent job of selecting an excellent slate of candidates to be voted on at this meeting. Have a great September. Jude McDonnell, |

House Committee Report Participation for Wednesday night dinners has been excellent. The Governing Board at the Thursday, August 12th meeting agreed to continue serving them as long as 20 or more dinners are ordered. If you enjoy coming to the Club for dinner on Wednesday evening, please continue to do so. Lunch participation is still lagging. The House Committee is suggesting that the Chef, John Cloud, serve a Blue Plate special Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in addition to our regular menu. Come on down and bring a friend to lunch at your Club. The BYC Governing Board at the request of the House Committee directed the Committee to revamp the Friday Night dinner menu. Gone will be the $30 meals. We are currently working with Phil, our manager, to provide our members with good food at a reasonable price. Tailgating comes to BYC this fall. Jennifer Schmidt of the House Committee is in charge of the new program at BYC. It works this way. Each Saturday a BYC volunteer member will choose a football game for the big screen TV. That volunteer will be responsible for preparing the tailgate food for that day. The first tailgate party is scheduled for Saturday, September 11 at 11:00 a.m., when Jimmy ‘Tuna” Taylor prepares grilled “tuna” for the USM Golden Eagles game with Nebraska. Volunteers are needed, so contact Jennifer or the House Committee. Monday Night Football will be underway soon. Please sign up
to cook your favorite meals, If you have any questions, see our assistant
manager, Brenda. She will help you plan your meal and order food items. Ralph Pringle, House Committee Chairman Ralph Pringle, House Committee Chairman |
Sailing Program Fund Raiser If you have not returned your purple tickets for the fundraiser, there is still time! The drawing will be held on September 19th at the General Membership Meeting. There has been very low participation thus far - only 83 members out of 390 have helped. I can not express how important it is for EVERY MEMBER to participate with this event, remember this is to benefit the club as a whole. So lets all pull together and support the club. The Green Column The unseasonably cool weather has come and gone. Since it caught us by surprise we didn’t get a lot done on the grounds. It’s just as well because summer is back again. Our biggest problem is still the watering. The Board approved our proposed water line across the parking lot at the last meeting. Those of you with “caller ID” better watch those telephone numbers very carefully if you plan to dodge this work project! Have you noticed the neat job Jeff Ellis did on the front walkway between the frontage road and Highway 90? He cleaned the walkway and trimmed the grass just before the Jerry Ellis Regatta. We have further plans for that area and his work is a tremendous help toward getting that project under way. Several weeks ago Margo Dalrymple (and friends) won the “split the pot’ draw and donated the winnings to the Grounds Committee. This was remarkably generous but what is even more interesting is that Margo is a member of the Gulfport Yacht Club, I think her membership is in the wrong club. Welcome anytime Margo. We’re looking forward to getting back in the garden after the long hot summer. Your Gardening Guru

BYC Ladies Auxiliary
BYC Ladies Auxiliary met the first Wednesday of August in the
dining room. Several members enjoyed Andrea Yeager’s demonstration of Pumpkin
dip with low fat & splenda sugar. She brought her own cooking stove and
demonstrated chocolate tortillas with whipped cream and lemon sauce. Andrea has
a store in Long Beach with kitchen gadgets reasonably priced. All who attended
had a grand time. We will have a program about Hurricane Camille at our night
meeting September 2nd. All members are invited to attend.
