Commodore's Corner Well we did it again, the GORC was a grand success. I heard many comments from the sailors on how well the Regatta was run. I would like to take this time to thank Phil, his staff and ALL of the BYC volunteers who helped make it happen. On May 5th, we will start Wednesday Night Races, so come on out and sail with us, let's see who hast the fastest BYC boat. There will be dinner on Wednesdays so get your food order in before you go out and race. On Sunday, May 9th, we will be serving Mother's Day Brunch. Please call the club and make reservations. Remember, the club will start serving Sunday Brunch every week after Mother's Day so come on down and support your club on Sundays. Commodore Ladies Auxiliary Luncheon For those of us who can't afford to fly out to the La Costa Spa when we want to be pampered, there is a new alternative - The Day Spa. These new coast businesses go beyond the typical hair and nail salons by offering an extensive variety of services for both women and men such as massage, total skin care, body wraps and new tanning techniques. On May 12th, Sandra Seymour of "Ancient Oaks" and "Illusions" spas will give us an inside look at what a day spa can do for your appearance and health. If you have never had a professional message, join us to FEEL what you have been missing. |
| Wednesday Night Racing On Wednesday, May 5th, the BYC will start Wednesday Night Racing. The races will start at 6pm sharp. All PHRF yachts are invited to attend. You can register before the race starts. There will be no registration fee. The club will also be serving dinner after the race completes (we ask that you try to order before leaving the docks.) Races will start in front on the club pier and race to a designated channel mark and then return to the club pier. |

| GORC Notes from "SCOTTY" As members of the BYC (host yacht club for the GORC) we should all be very proud that a hard working group of volunteers at the BYC could put on such a prestigious regatta. No finer, competitive regatta exists on the central Gulf. All the sailors who came to the GORC know they will get the best race management and the warmest hospitality that any yacht club could offer. Many of you worked on various committees from the Race Committee, Kitchen Committee, Ticket Sales, Po-Boy Committee and even Entertainment Committee, as part of the overall GORC Regatta committee. So many of you volunteered to work with one of my regatta coordinators, that it would be impossible to name you all. So I will list the regatta coordinators an you can be assured that each and everyone on the regatta committee thanks you for the service to the club and the GYA GORC Regatta Committee. 1999 GORC Regatta Committee Winfield "Scotty" Scott, GORC
Regatta Chairman Ralph Pringle, Vice Chairman Larry Manuel, Jennifer Schmidt, Holly Haviland-Graham, Mary Cruthirds, Stag Pitalo, Jude McDonnell, Mitch Parker, Wayne Fortier, Jeff Guice, Helene Ederer, Beckey Feder, Jimmy Taylor Dozens of sailors approached me during the regatta with compliments about all of you . So thanks again and I know your efforts have made this regatta a financial success for the Biloxi Yacht Club. Winfield

RE: GORC From the skipper and crew of "BLACK MAGIC" THANKS for a great weekend of racing. BYC did a great job once again. You can tell when a regatta runs smooth by how seamless it appears from the outside. From the time you opened the doors each morning, to the end of the festivities each night, the whole club flowed smoothly. Obviously, this took plenty of planning, organizing and volunteer help. We had a great time and appreciate the hospitality that was extended to us. Your club members should be proud of their efforts in making this event a success. Thanks Again Huey Kliebert and crew "Black Magic" |
Hello from the newly formed Biloxi Yacht Club Marketing Committee Chairman! First I want to thank all of you who have agreed to serve on my telephone committee, and a special thanks to Jennifer Schmidt and Debra Bounds. They serve both on the telephone committee, and on the marketing committee. How I managed to talk fast enough to get double duty from them, I'll never know, but I'm not letting go now!
As all of you know, the function of a marketing committee is to promote something (in our case, the club) is new ways. After lots of brainstorming, we've decided to start implementing our new ides with the Lee Sheet. We are revamping the Lee Sheet in order to bring you new, individual mail outs an reminders for the club activities. Watch your mailbox! We will be publishing the full Lee Sheet - expected to take 6 pages - on a quarterly basis, and publishing a limited version all other months. For those of you who must write articles, this cuts your articles to two more - the July issue and the October issue. Deadlines will still be the 15th of the month previous. All other months, we will publish an abbreviated version, consisting of the next tow months' calendar, and all upcoming special events.
Watch for the new Lee Sheet, coming to you in June, and please give me feedback on the new format!
Sincerely,
Holly

Secretary's Report Governing Board Highlights April 6, 1999: The new roof and siding have been installed at the club. A new awning will have to be made and installed in the near future. The SBA loan has been approved and all damages to the pier from Hurricane Georges will be finished. The draw down was a great success and all the money has been allocated for improvements to the club. A new format was approved for the Lee Sheet, with letters going out to the members describing what will be taking place. Wayne J. Fortier |
A Special Thanks! April 14, 1999 "I didn't get a chance to say thanks for a great regatta, It's always fun when you win, but this was a good year for races courses, parties and weather" Hunter |
GORC FEEDBACK
April 12, 1999
On behalf of my crew and myself, I'd like to thank everyone involved in this year's GORC. In the traveling I have done with the boat, I have yet to enjoy a regatta as much as this weekend. In my opinion, everyone at the Biloxi Yacht Club has found the perfect combination of professionalism and hospitality, As I commented to the crew after the last race, "GORC is sort of like Key West race Week, except with more personality." It is obvious that everyone at the Biloxi Yacht Club takes great pride in hosting the event, and that pride truly makes the GORC a model for PHRF racing on the Gulf Coast.
Please pass on my thanks to everyone involved with the event. I regret that there is certainly someone at the club that I did not thank. From the breakfast crew to the race committee, I can't give enough praise for their friendliness. (Unfortunately, we even found the protest committee a pleasure to deal with.) Further more, this is the first regatta in which the race committee has serenaded our boat the "BOB" songs. The crew you assembled for the event did not miss a thing!
With best regards,
Rob Hart

Notes from the Manager
Our summer hours will start on June 1st, not April 5th as I had reported in the last Lee Sheet. We will stay open later if there are members at the bar. If there is no one at the boar, we will close at the normal winter hours.
I wish to extend a very special warm thank you to everyone who helped at the GORC. I do not know how my staff and I would have made out without the special efforts of the volunteer help in the kitchen, bar, dining room, po-boys and ticket sales. It is very hard to work a regatta as big as the GORC, but everyone here made it so easy for things to run smoothly.
Please do not forget to make reservations for Sunday, May 9th. We will have a Mother's Day Brunch from 11:30 until 1:30. After Mother's Day, the club will continue having Sunday Brunch from 11:30 until 1:30 until further notice. Let's try to make this a success!
