From the Commodore

Congratulations to all the fundraiser winners. The fundraiser was very successful; all who participated enjoyed the food and music we had this year. To the BYC Staff and all the volunteers, I appreciated your help and Cooperation.

The March Board meeting went very well. We brought in 9 new members, 7 adults and 2 juniors. The financials look good for this time of year.  There are fewer delinquencies, which helps our cash flow.

The pool will officially open on April 30th. The Juniors have a party booked for this date. I look forward to seeing all of you poolside.

We had a great GORC this year. There were not a lot of boats, but we had a lot of people, both members and outsiders enjoying our facilities. I have many committees and volunteers both on and off the water to thank for their hard work and long hours.

The City told Jerry Kelly all boats and trailers had to be removed from his property, or he would be fined. All boats and trailer owners were very cooperative in moving their property. BYC has to ask that no boats or trailers be parked in our lot, or Jerry's lot. We need all available parking spaces for our membership.

Thelma and crew have done a wonderful job in cleaning the parking lot and grounds. We need everyone's help to keep it that way.

BYC has a new dance floor. We hope this will create new club activities. Our gratitude goes to Rocky Rhodes for making this possible.

I am very pleased with the first 3 1/2 months of my administration. With the Board, Staff and membership working together as a team, the Club is moving forward. Please  continue to enjoy the Club and support the activities.

Sincerely Yours,

Jerry J. Ellis,
Commodore

From the Marina

Have you noticed that the days are getting longer? Soon, the warm winds will start blowing and the weather will be perfect for spending more time out at the BYC Marina. Volunteers have put in many hours improving the club's real estate south of Hwy 90 that will please even the saltiest of dogs.

The Sunset Bar and Grill was enhanced last month, the structure of the piers have been strengthened, and changes to the Rub Rail have improved the overall atmosphere. Many thanks to Cindy Milford and crew. There's always more work to do and help is always welcome.

With the warm weather comes the sailing season. This year we have many events with the Marina as the focal point, to include Regattas, Wednesday night racing, and Sail Camp. The more members that assist with these spectacular sailing events, the better each event will be.

Wednesday night races begin in May, so come out and watch the boats line up for the start, talk with friends as teh racers battle it out, and enjoy the sunset as the boats make their way back to the finish. There is no better way to relax in the middle of the week.

If you have a boat and want to lease a slip, get your application from the bar and fill it out for the Marina Committee. As slips come open, they are assigned to the next person on the list. The marina is a convenient place to keep your boat for any marine adventure you enjoy.

A good time is waiting where the boats gently sway as the waves roll in.

So come "Where the weather Suits are Shorts and Flops" and enjoy. Remember, come as you are, enjoy the saltwater side of the BYC, and always look both ways when you cross Hwy 90.

Fair Winds About You, and Calm Seas Under You,

Michael Smith

The Green Column

We haven't had a chance to use our new waterline Wendell Lee put in for us. As a matter of interest, we haven't been doing any watering at all. Can you image that? Soon enough we'll be wishing for some more of that rain. Thanks to Dovel for shoveling the rocks back in place after the last flood.

During the last month the garden crew has put in annuals around the pool and more azaleas on the west die. We have done a lot of maintenance on the plants, that made it through the winter. We appreciate the effort everyone made in getting the boats and trailers moved out of the parking lot. We have some more cleanup work to do in that area.

Mr. Precision (Kevin Connor) and Ms. Precision (Lou Hare) made an interesting team when they tackled the job of repairing the gate on the street side. I think they are still friends. We'll get back to you on that.

Thanks to Bobby Bounds for another cash donation. Don and Molly Penrod have made contributions for camellias to honor Beverly Kay and Jane Humphries. Lou and Jim Holcombe previously contributed money for camellias to honor Jack & Harriet Widmer and Joyce Wiltz. This is a special way to remember departed  friends.

For the next few weeks most of the work will be weed, feed and water (maybe). We'll have the pool are looking good by the time the pool opens.

Your Gardening Guru
Thelma C. Ellis
