Activities in March 10th 12th 20th 27th 28th April 1st, 2nd & 3rd 22nd, 23rd & 24th |
From the Commodore We had our second board meeting Wednesday, February 16th. I want to thank the Board, office staff and committees for their wonderful cooperation and a very successful meeting. With this kind of team work the club can continue to go forward. I want to thank Mitch Parker for his hard work in the kitchen-getting it back in order. He has fixed a lot of appliances, and saved the club $800 by repairing the salad bar, and doing other repair work. His Super Bowl Sunday was very successful with the help of Stag Pitalo, Jim O’Neal and others. Members on the delinquent list, please catch up. The Board of Directors is enforcing the new penalties at the end of the March statement. The Club doesn’t want your extra money; we only want the money owed us. Thank you very much for your cooperation in this matter. I’m very sad to announce the death of Tim Murray. Tim was a member of BYC, New Orleans Yacht Club and others. He was a boat broker and was known all over the Coast. He will be sadly missed. Thanks to Roger Milford and Tim Kirkman for their cooperation in helping fund the pier project. Six new badly needed pilings were driven this week. This shows what can be done when you have good teamwork.
Ralph Pringle had his first committee meeting. They are planning
another successful pier party for Smokin the Sound. Thelma Ellis was
very helpful by bringing her list In closing, I want to remind you that I need your continued help and cooperation to keep the Club going forward. Thank you very much. I look forward to seeing all of you at the March 20th fundraiser. Sincerely Yours,
Jerry J. Ellis,

The Green Column Other than fertilizing a few plants and throwing a little water on pot plants we haven't done very much in the garden lately. I think the term "in hibernation" pretty much describes my outside activity for the last few months. Look out though! I'm beginning to see little green things pushing up through that frozen mush. I've dug out my membership roster and am mentally lining up some help for the spring. To begin we have set a Spring Grounds Clean-up Day for Saturday, March 19th at 9am, weather permitting. The rain date will be the following Saturday, March 26th. Bring your leaf takes, leaf blowers, clippers, gloves and a pole saw if you have one. With enough hands we should have most of the leaves and dead plants cleaned up in record time. We'll have plenty of coffee and maybe even a little breakfast for those slow starters. With the GORC and other spring activities coming up, we need to get our club looking a lot better than it does now. Wendell Lee is going to put in our water line under the parking lot as soon as he can free up a crew. For those of you who have not dragged those heavy hoses across that parking lot you can't know how we are looking forward to this little luxury. Lou and Jim Holcomb have purchased another camellia as a memorial. This one is for Joyce Wiltz. We have several more club members who are going to make similar donations. $25 buys a very nice plant. Call me if you have someone you with to remember in this way.
