22nd & 29rd 18th 27th July 2nd & 3rd 4th |
From the Commodore The weather is getting warmer; our members are starting to enjoy the Club in greater numbers. We are serving between 50 and 70 people on Friday nights, please come down and join them. People are using the new dance floor, with Ray Fournier playing the last three weeks from 8 till 11 p.m. We will continue having music on Friday nights as long as the members come down and support it. We started Wednesday night sailing. The Club will be serving dinner from 6 till 9 p.m. on Wednesday nights. Smokin the Sound was very successful. I am very happy with the number of volunteers who spent their weekend ensuring everyone was well fed and had a good time. I attended the GYA meeting at the opening regatta at the Lake Arthur Yacht Club. We also had a sailing team down there representing BYC and we finished 6th overall out of 18 clubs. This is our highest finish in many years. We feel we have the sailing program on its way up. We have a lot of interested people sailing with us again. BYC also hosted a GYA Manager’s Meeting a couple of weeks ago. One concern all managers had was complaints from members regarding the behavior of other member’s children. I am confident our members have taught their children to be respectful of other people and property. Be sure to check out Jeff Ellis’s article on summer sailing. We are hosting the Biloxi Invitational for the first time in many years. We also had the Past Commodore’s race at the end of May. Our May Board Meeting was once again productive. My continued thanks to all Board members for their wonderful cooperation. This also extends to all BYC committees and members.
The weather is great, the pool is open, and the flying scots are
ready. Please come down and join us.

Ladies Auxiliary Club Members Lou Holcomb (right) and Linda Kletecka (left) shop for handbags and jewelry with Bonnie Hutchenson of “The Jewelry Shop” at the May meeting. The Auxiliary will go “on vacation” June, July, and August, resuming programs and lunch the second Thursday in September. Closet items may be purchased through Brenda’s staff and J.J. Gage, Auxiliary Treasurer. Some club members might wish to attend TUESDAY LADIES NIGHT, WEDNESDAY DINNER NIGHTS, or our usual THURSDAY LUNCHEONS. Mothers and children could organize play date pool parties. Jackie Hand, President |
From the
Marina The Wednesday Night Races started off, Volunteers ensured a good start and as usual the sun set was breath taking. Every Wednesday you can come out and marvel at the sunset, enjoy the camaraderie, and cheer your favorite boat for the races. The response of boat owners leasing slips to show they could move their boats in the event of a hurricane was good, but we still have a few that need to contact me. We all need to be focusing on our Hurricane preparation plans, whether we have a boat or not. Take time now so you will be ahead of the crowds and ready for the season. I have noticed a few members coming out to just sit and relax, read a book, or talk with friends. They are enjoying all the club has to offer. With the Junior Sailing Camp on the horizon there will be a lot more activities to enjoy out on the Pier. Please remember to pick up after yourselves and leave the pier as clean as, or cleaner than, you found it. I thank you in advance for that. If you have a boat and want to lease a slip, get your application filled out and turned in to the club for the Marina Committee. As slips come open, they are assigned to the next person on the list. The marina is a convenient place to keep your boat for any marine adventures you enjoy. Please note that slips are for renting and most are taken even though a boat may not be in the slip at the moment. Please do not put your boat in a slip without contacting me first, If you find yourself unexpectedly at the marina and need a slip for any reason, you must call me immediately and fill out the temporary slip request form at the club. Rules of the Marina and phone numbers are on the bulletin board at the Rub Rail. So, come
as you are and enjoy the saltwater side of the BYC, and always look both
ways when you cross Hwy. 90. Michael Smith |

Smokin the Sound
Smokin the Sound this year was a resounding success. Large powerboats roared
down the Thanks go out to the numerous volunteers from BYC who provided food and drink for the many members and guests on the pier. Both the volunteers and members who supported the event were treated to a good time Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24. I am not going to name all of the volunteers because I will surely forget someone. However, two workers in particular deserve mention and our thanks, “Grillman” aka Jim O’Neal, had his head in the smoke for two days cooking burgers and sausages. David Andrews of the crawfish crew provided his purgers for cleaning the critters and he worked tirelessly both days. Thanks to you both for all of your efforts. Gratuity from the charge tickets went to the BYC Juniors. Rear Commodore Robert Smith, Junior sponsor, and Immediate Past Commodore Jude McDonnell with the help of Junior members kept the pier clean and emptied the garbage cans. They earned $441.92 for the Junior fund.
COMMITTEE CHAIRS FOR THE EVENT WERE: Thanks again to all BYC members who supported this event. Ralph Pringle, Chairman |
