REGATTA AT BILOXI

The first grand sailing match of the season at this fashionable watering place came off yesterday, August 8, 1849. A hasty missive dropped us by a correspondent enables us to give the result without entering into details, which we shall publish on a future occasion.

It appears that the two contests for the First and Second prizes were very spirited affairs, the latter being the first decided. It was clearly won by the sloop Mary Bella, owned by H.T. Showram, Esq., of New Orleans. She belongs to what are called in the race "second class boats."

The Silver Pitcher, the prize for the "first class boats," after an exciting trial--mainly confined to the Undine, and Marry Ann and the Flirt--was finally awarded to the first named.

The interest was kept up to the last moment of the boats coming in, the Mary Ann vigorously contesting the race, and arriving in port--at the goal--immediately after the victor, the Undine. The Flirt sailed beautifully and was but a little way behind the Mary Ann in coming in.

A Rowing Match came off at the same time at 5 o'clock P. M. yesterday (August 8) but we have not received particulars of the issue.
